GETTING STARTED
When you start AudioMagus for the first time, you should go to the options and select a different FreeDB server. Use the one geographically closest to you, or if it is slow to respond, try others. Russian one seems to have lots of bandwidth and is not under heavy load. Press "Query FreeDB servers" to get the latest server list. As a default it uses Finnish FreeDB server, which is closest to me.
Setting options Now you can either start using AudioMagus or - preferrably - set some more options. If you need, fill in the proxy fields and check "Use proxy to connect". These settings are used only for checksum query; if you query album from FreeDB by name, default Internet Explorer settings are used. You can also specify the starting folder, ie the folder that will be opened automatically when AudioMagus starts. When you have selected that folder already in the main window, click "Use current", otherwise click "Specify starting folder" and select a folder from the dialog that pops up. Set "Filegrid double-click"to determine what happens when you double-click on a filename in main window. "Play" launches selected file in application that is associated with that filetype; I'll discuss "Info/manual rename" window later. Note that you can access both items from the right-click menu or via hotkey. Uncheck "Hide data exchange" to see details of data exchange between AudioMagus and FreeDB server. Clicking on "Create shell shortcut" will add item "AudioMagus" to the folder right-click menu in Windows Explorer, allowing you to quickly open a folder in AudioMagus.
In the "Renaming" tab are the naming and other similar options. Here you can add your own name formats, if the one that you prefer is not already listed. Just type in the format that you want to the edit field and press "Add" to add format to the list. You can see preview of the name format while you are typing in below.
However, remember not to use symbols that are not allowed in Windows filenames ": |<>*?\/ ^ "Write tag if possible" Besides renaming, AudioMagus can write also ID3v1 and ID3v2 or native info tags to the file. Tagging is supported for .aac, .ape (& .mac), .flac, .mp3, .mp2, .mpa, .mpc, .ogg, .ofr,.ofs, .tta filetypes. If possible, AudioMagus will write both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags. For filetypes such as FLAC which do not support ID3 tags but have their own instead, native tag will be written. If file does not have a tag already, then renaming/tagging is considerably slower! "Create playlist" If checked, AudioMagus will also write simple .m3u playlist to the folder where files are. Playlist will have "artist - album.m3u" filename.
