Querying album info by checksum |

QUERYING ALBUM INFO BY CHECKSUM DiscID or checksum is a hexadecimal number that is calculated by the duration of the tracks on the album. Also, file order is important - if your files appear in wrong order, then the checksum is wrong and you will not get the correct match. Therefore, if your tracks are not numbered, there is no way that you can get correct answer from AudioMagus. In the filegrid right-click menu there is an item to rename files with 1..9 to 01..09. However, be careful, that function may mess up some band/album/song names (U2, Version 2.0, Nothing Compares 2 U. etc). Note that only first number in the filename is checked, ie "1 - U2 - Song" is renamed to "01 - U2 - Song" without any hassles. Also, see "Name from tag" function that may help as well. It is recommended always to use checksum method first, since if checksum method fails, there is a fair chance that you have an incomplete or fake file in the album.
Now that you've selected the folder with audio files, you can see that the "Query" button in top left of the folders tree is enabled. Press it to query info about the album from the FreeDB. Quite often you will get more than one match for an album, the reason being different versions, inaccurate DiscID due to the imprecise ripping of the song (added two seconds of silence to the end of the audio file makes a lot of difference in the checksum) etc.
If you get several matches, a dialog will pop up, allowing you to select the version that you like. If you get only one match, then it will count as if you had selected it already. You will see edit fields in the "FreeDB info" panel in the top of the window to fill with info and Track column in the filegrid will get values, too. Pay attention to the info - FreeDB has lots of bad entries, with song , artist or album names wrong, bad genre, even wrong number of songs in the album. You can edit artist, album, year and genre fields if that is so. So we have found a correct answer in the database. Time to choose some renaming options. In the left top corner is a drop-down with the name formats. If you have selected name format before, then AudioMagus will remember it and show it as a default next time. There is also a checkbox and another dropdown for folder name. If you want the folder renamed, check the "Rename folder" checkbox and select appropriate format from the drop-down. Again, your preferences will be remembered and automatically loaded next time that you use AudioMagus.
After selecting those options, click on the "Rename" button which is directly above folder tree, next to the "Query" button. AudioMagus will disable edit fields and tree and attempt to rename and (optionally) tag your audio files. This may take some time, if tagging is enabled and files did not have previously tags. Info about the renaming is shown in the log window. Pay attention to it, as file rename errors are displayed there as well. Usual cause for the errors is file being in use - that means that you are listening it right now or it is being used by some P2P application and are being sent out right now. Disc errors are another possibility.
After renaming/tagging, the folder is renamed and playlist is created if you chose those options. Then the folder tree is refreshed and you are ready to rename another album. However, if you didn't get a match, then it is time to try querying album by name. |
